could you make it any more obvious?

on the today show this morning Katie Couric was interviewing the one senator who is "calling for" Kofi Annon(sp) to step down because of the food for oil controversey. ms. couric asked him, but senator shouldn't you wait until the investigation is concluded to call for that (in similar words)? for some reason it reminded me of something i saw my last day in london. it made me want to pick up any kind of foreign accent to hide my nationality.

the last night i was extremely disappointed because i couldn't go out because my sister is not 21 and we wanted to go to places where you had to be 21 (or cool/large-half-bare-breasted/a model). instead we went to an irish pub. which wasn't that bad, except i was the only one drinking and consequently i went back to my room drunk. my dad was also awake when we got in the room, and evidently had just taken a shit or farted really badly, and my sister disappeared (with the bf obviously). he kept asking where she was and i kept yelling at him. she's with matt dad, forget about it. go to sleep! and then he kept making old man noises and snoring. so at about seven in the morning i had had enough of this, and i remembered that you could get a ridiculously expensive breakfast at the hotel restaurant. so i went down to the restaurant to discover along with a few other people that it didn't open until 7:30. so i went up to the lobby and waited patiently by sitting in a chair and thinking and watching other people. not so hard, right?

then this american lady with whom i'm assuming was her mother emerge from the steps. they immediately go to the front desk and ask them when the restaurant opens. they are told seven thirty. then the lady starts complaining, but we were told the restaurant opens at 7:00. had we known it opened at 7:30 we would have made other arrangements. and she keeps going on and on and on about HOW THEY WERE TOLD THAT THE RESTAURANT OPENS AT 7:00!!! (as if it were her right to have accurate information without misunderstanding in any part of the world at any moment) until the poor staff has had enough and makes an exception to get them tea and bread or whatever it is they have on hand that they can spare from the normal breakfast preparations. the point is, this lady keeps on going on and on about this, refusing to accept the fact that there clearly had been a miscommunication (the entire staff speaks amongst themselves in french and their english isn't the greatest, nor is their level of understanding). had she been in the states she sounded like she'd probably file a lawsuit because of the accidental misinformation. could she make her nationality any more obvious? i wanted to hide.

i'm not really sure why katie couric's question reminded me of this incident. maybe it's because they are both examples of usaeans making a big deal about something before they have all the facts/brain power to recognize miscommunication.

what's going on? i have not received any emails in the last few days - it really sucks when BOTH of my email addresses are getting nothing sent to them. want to entertain me? send me an email diana13181@hotmail.com*
