they were there, just waiting for me

I spent a whole winter shopping for antiques with my mom once. she would find these pieces that she liked, but could live without. either the item was just out of her price range or she wanted something else more; she would say well if i'm meant to have it, it'll be here the next time i come in.

which leads me to the moral of my story: if you're meant to have it, it'll be there when you get back! Today i went to nordstrom's rack in search of these green pants that i had seen there a month ago. i figured since that was early spring, they were already out of season and were probably at the rack by this time. i went, tried on a few pairs of jeans, but could not find my coveted pants. so i checked filene's basement as well, still no pants. in desperation i decided finally that i would just go to nordstrom's; if the pants were there they'd probably be on sale by now. (the reason i didn't buy them when i first tried them on is that i was already buying about a hundred bucks worth of clothes (= 2 pieces) but i couldn't stop thinking about them!)

i head straight up to the second floor, and breeze through all the new clothes in the TBD/Savvy section. nope, no pants there. i make my way over to the sale racks. some shirts. some jeans. ooh there's my pants!!!! except they are size M. ooh another, but pink and another M. another green, but L!!! finally, i uncover a P and an S (P i'm assuming petite, or xs). tried them on and ten seconds later i had these pants that you see in the picture. i actually do have an ankle, you just can't see it because it's right behind my other leg and the pants are wide-legged. but fit me in the butt- which is their most important aspect! too bad i didn't get my silver shoes in the picture. i really like this outfit - i figure that green is a pretty bright color, so i avoided anything colorful on top, opting instead for the grey silk camisole and white 3/4 sleeve cardigan. and the one accessory besides my clutch is the only green thing that i have - a necklace that i bought a while ago in Argentina (Palermo Viejo to be exact.) of course, i'm not going to try to match any top with my pants - i own nothing green except my lacoste sweater and it's a different shade of green so would never work. i just threw the green necklace on for, not irony, but in acknowledgement of the standard matching game that i am trying to avoid playing. maybe it is kind of ironic. i don't know, i think that's part of my personal style - i like to throw a little bit of irony in, kind of like making a very subtle statement - putting together an outfit is like painting except i am the canvas. thinking i will get a boob job eventually b/c i'm tired of clothes not fitting - i took the cami in to the tailors to get it fixed (one strap was nearly hanging) and i asked if there was anything she could do to make the boob part smaller. you need to grow more breast! was her answer.
