that's because she had a big red ball next to her couch and she let me play with it! my friend who had a housewarming party last night, that is.
there were only a handful of people there. and by the time L and i had finished off what was left of the pineapple and chocolate fondue, i was sure i would be bored.
and for a short time i was.
but after the extraneous "normal" people left it was just us geeks who had only been in a handful of classes with "normal" people in high school.
i guess it was inevitable that we would all end up trading stories about high school. or at least they would all end up trading stories - they had all gone to the same high school. of course at various points i interjected with my two to ten cents.
but the amazing thing is i actually ended up having fun.
the thing i like about hanging out with fellow smart people is the capacity for interesting conversation.
sure, with the box-of-rocks types you could talk about normal stuff like drinking games, um... types of beer, sports. but you could never have a discussion about the pharmaceutical industry or a hamster-wheel type thing for people (it would be two spheres in one, and bouncy. it wouldn't be used on roads but on college campuses; if you were using it while drunk you'd still be ok because it's BOUNCY! and you couldn't crumple it up. of course you may get sick from bouncing... i just get a kick out of imagining people bouncing to work in their bubbles.) we had the hamster wheel conversation because we had just been talking about something serious and depressing so we needed to take it up a notch.
moral of the story: sometimes it's fun to stay in and have intelligent conversation. and i will no longer assume that just because there's a few dorks at party i won't be having any fun. of course, they have to be dorks of the intelligent kind, not the anti-social dorky kind.
anyway. it was a weekend that started poorly and ended up mediocre.
