finally had the discussion about The Cult's effects on my psyche with my shrink. first i went over the history of my involvement with it. i don't remember how the OCD came up; perhaps he asked me if i had seen any changes in myself; maybe he had asked me what it did for me to be involved with The Cult. i know, it's very cynical for me to refer to them as the cult but i realized how adept they are at ostracizing anyone who does anything outisde the bounds of their rules. i told him how before i'd had tons of obsessions (and went into detail about assigning corners values, looking in a bad corner once more to cancel out having looked there in the first place, pointing things towards the good corners, etc.) i noticed that after i began attending The Cult the obsessions went away. "do you know why that was?" asked my shrink. "the obsession that religion is replaced my other obsessions," i said. "exactly. the structure of rules provided an outlet for your obsessions."
he then went on to say that OCD people join the KKK as well for the same reasons - for the structure that alleviates their obsessions/compulsions. "not saying that The Cult is anything like the KKK.." (to which i laughed and said, "well...")
