i have to say, the girls at nordstr*ms are so much nicer and classier than the ones at AB (NOT EVER to be confused with AF, which i only patronize when there is a tee shirt with a funny slogan that makes me laugh - such as, keep my hands to yourself.) here is why.
1. the salesgirl at AB did not make any compliments on my choice of pieces. i got this awesome peach-colored silk shirt for $25 (originally $60); when i found out it was only that much i was like sweet! it's such a cute shirt! the salesbitch said nothing. they ought to include people skills as part of their new employee orientation. the girl at norsdtr*ms complimented me on the three quarter sleeve deep v-neck cashmere cardigan, calling it very "cute." much classier, even if she was lying.
2. there was a sales "girl" at AB dressed very inappropriately. what i mean is, a faded blonde woman who looked about fifty by the wrinkles on her face and the excess of eyeliner on her eyelids, dressed in AB clothes - which means she looked like a faded woman one might find in a biker bar drunkly talking up the bartender with her raspy smoker's voice. and she also talked with intonation and mannerisms very similar to those of the young'un salesgirl that helped me. at nordstr*ms, all the sales people were dressed age-appropriately. and they had salesgirls my age in the department i frequent, and obviously, older salespeople in the departments for people of a certain age. much classier.
but will i stop shopping at AB? no, their clothes are too cute.
maybe the sales girl was a little chilly because i got a call. i told CC that i was "shopping for teacher clothes." now, AB does not sell clothes with apples or pumpkins on them. that is not MY idea of "teacher clothes." for me they're clothes that i like that will be appropriate for work. ie, cute, but dinner-and-a-movie-date cute, not drinks-at-the-club- then-your-place-or-mine? cute.

AB? Arden B? anytime you want more J Crew.....
That description of the AB woman matches exactly, I mean perfectly, one of my co-workers with the eye liner, the blonde hair and the biker bar.
Now you can imagine what I have to put up with everyday!
