bloody nipples

those words together in that order cause me to squirm and cringe in my seat.

what separates seeing blood on that part of the body from seeing blood on say the knees?

i suppose because nipples are orifices through which, given the right mix of hormones and stimulation, that special substance that makes us mammals flows. blood is not supposed to come from that area and seeing bloody nipples would make one think that blood were flowing from said orifices!

knees on the other hand are quite boring.

i was kind of hoping maybe i'd see men lactating today.

if you're wondering why i'm even talking on this subject, here's why: i went and watched the chicago marathon this morning. it was a lot of fun! and kind of inspiring. for two seconds. because then i think of ten mile runs and my stress fracture starts reminding me of its presence... or reappears as a ghost, i'm not sure which.

we were at mile two, then at mile twelve, then about half a mile from the finish. the runners had to make a turn and then cross a bridge (uphill) then make another turn to arrive at the finish. many bloody nipples passed us. only on men of course b/c women are smart enough to wear tight clothing next to that sensitive area (read: sports bra.)

a lot of the bloody nipples had numbers attached right beneath them - meaning that for twenty six miles the poor bloody nipple has been chafed by the man's shirt or worse - the safety pin used to attach the number to the shirt.

and it's true, men can lactate. on DHC the other day i watched a program - i think it was "men with breasts" or something of that nature. this guy had finished a marathon and he noticed a white milky substance coming from - yes, his nipples.

merely thinking of that part of my body getting rubbed the wrong way makes me cringe. ugh but seeing all those bloody nipples and thinking about it now.... i think i'm gonna head for the toilet!
