everymorning i say "goodmorning class!" and they say back to me "good morning miss e!"
at least once a day i hear an extra syllable in there. if i hear one person say "MRS e" i make them say good morning to me again, the right way.
whenever that happens i lift up my left hand and ask, look! do you guys see a ring on this finger? no? that means i'm a miss! i'm not married! when i say it to my kids (er, students as my womb has not borne any babies) i feel proud to still be single. i feel like, in my field, i am a specimen of a rare breed. i'm glad to be one of those who did not get married right after college because it's the next logical step or because i'd like to see if marriage is for me. no, fortunately for me i escaped from the cult! (see liz's blog for more on that!)
am still proud to be a miss!
*************
yesterday afternoon when i got home (at 16:45, go me, imposing good rules on myself) i was quite surprised to find the front door LOCKED! i asked my mom why it was locked. it was to keep my sister out.
i bet my parents never imagined that the day the started using the locks on the doors it would be to lock out one of their own.
needless to say when i got home from work today she was in front of the tv, talking on the phone. i asked her how she got in. i called my aunt because my mom said to let my father deal with it, and my father was at the gym and therefore not picking up his phone.
