Chavez complaint
The summit comes a week before the UN General Assembly in New York next week, and from Havana Mr Chavez also accused the US of deliberately trying to prevent him from attending.
He said the Americans had refused to grant entry visas to his personal doctors - including six Cubans - and members of his security team.
The US confirmed visas had not been issued, but said the Venezuelan government had been very late in applying.
But Mr Chavez said he would get to New York somehow - "even if it's on horseback".Thanks to the BBC for that quote. the whole article is here.
ok, ok, ok. i'm sure the reader might be tiring of my going on and on and on about world events but i did particularly enjoy the above article. especially the part of hugo chavez. if the US is the bully of the playground, Chavez is like the king of the nerds, trying to get anyone he can to his side. i was going to say the nerd who tries to recruit the other nerds, but iran isn't one of the nerds, and cuba really isn't either. it's like cuba and iran are over there playing four square when the US comes and tries to take the ball away. iran is grabbing onto it tightly and exhausted (or distracted by the shouts on the soccer field), the bully gives up for now but sends a series of threats towards the four-square court, then goes and tries to tell everyone what to do with the soccer ball.
the above does somehow reflect my lack of familiarity with the whole subject, but i get a kick out of hugo chavez as the paranoid king of the nerds. he thinks the US won't let him and his posse onto the monkey bars (which the US has claimed) but the US is really over there trying to control the soccer game.
anyway *inspiration* a fun way to make sense of things going on (wheter or not i fully understand... perhaps the above is due some revision)
of course, hugo dear, you'd better have a horse that can run very fast and jump over that double fence some would like to build along the border with mexico.
another thing that caught my attention is that i have never heard of the non-alligned movement until this morning (coincidence?) maybe the NAM, with Cuba being the leader, is really the club of non-popular kids who want to have a voice to stand up to all those football-playing athletic types, and esp. the big bully.
*************
in other news, the job search has hit a plateau. or maybe a brick wall. i sent off another email with resume and cover letter, and put the same one in the mail. today i am first going to find out how much the migraine medicine (that works) will cost because it's not on my PPO's formulary. but then i will finish up my application for union county schools. then, who knows; i wanted to go to the library and study for tomorrow's tests but i have a migraine... ok it's not so bad if i'm up and moving around, but i have to pick everything up off the floor using my feet because the migraine intensifies tenfold if i bend over (you know, all the blood rushes to my head and ice pick in the side of my head becomes A HUGE PULSATING ice pick!) so i'll just have to tolerate it and avoid drugs that cause hangovers (acetaminophen, aspirin).
so send me some positive energy, esp the kind that will put the monster in my head to sleep!
