if i were gay i would be deeply offended. no, actually, as a person with a brain and reasoning skills, i AM offended that others that i'm sure, deep down, have brains, listen to people who lack reason! These people are just siding with the terrorists - you know, all those heterosexual men who want to martyr themselves for 72 virgins in heaven. Damn heteros. *Sarcasm off* Comment by PatrioticLiberalChristian(PLC) — October 3, 2006 @ 2:53 pm
very quickly because i'm afraid the cockroaches will get me as i'm sitting at my desk. thinkprogress.org has so kindly compiled some quotes from known right-wingers (but i'm wondering what has been compiled from people on the other side of the political spectrum?)... check it out here.
another example of favoring emotional reactions over reasoning.
another example of missing the forest for the trees!
but, this comment made me laugh out loud:
i think the quote goes: "you can't reason someone out of an opinion to which reason has not brought him."

I think Andrew Sullivan" had a very perceptive comment on the whole mess. He said "The base of the GOP has been fed homophobia and gay-baiting for years now. ...Gay-hating is integral to their machine."
There will always be scapegoats people are going to blame for their own problems. In the 19th century it was the Jews, Italians, Chinese, and Polish. Now it's the gays, Mexicans, and Arabs. The only thing more depressing than the hate itself is the knowledge that we can't stop fearing and hating what we can't understand.
