one day a few weeks ago, i was in the teacher's lounge heating up water in my hotpot to make the delicious delicacy known as ramen. Mrs. C, the reading teacher, was at one of the tables talking with another teacher. i overheard her talking about her son's athletic activities. i go to the park district and find a soccer team for him to practice with. i find out their schedule and i just bring him to practices - not to games though. just so he can see what it's like to practice with a team. what she didn't mention was that just finding out about a team and happening to be there when they practice does not involve paying the requisite fees. what must she do? wait in the van while all the other moms ask her son, who are you? where is your mommy? or does she believe herself well-equipped to deal with their i-know-you-didn't-pay stares? her son must have felt pretty awkward when they handed out the tee shirts and he didn't get one.
! is this not something Grace Adler (from Will & Grace for those of you who don't watch TV) would do (if she had a son) - STEAL SOCCER?!
i have to give her a nod though for seeing that her son does get some kind of athletic activity.
