the first time i see my ex for more than a year... the last time he saw me i was crying, and this time too!
but not for any emotional reason. you know how sometimes you get caught on one emotion? well i got stuck on tears this time.
i stubbed my toe on this sawed-off pole that was coming up out of the patio as we walked to a table in the cafe. it hurt a lot, and at first i didn't look down at it and i was fine.
but as i showed el chino the things i had gotten my family for christmas, my voice was faltering and i was fighting the tears. i look down and the blood is running, and i whined i'm sorry you have to see me cry AGAIN!
as soon as we sat down he asked the mozo to bring some stuff to take care of my toe. he comes back with a bottle of hydrogen peroxide and a huge wad of cotton. chino was so good. as i sat there like a spoiled little princess he cleaned up my toe, tried to stop the bleeding, and put on the curitas. then of course i got emotional about how kind it was of him (for lack of a better word because i can't think of another) to take care of me, and the tears started again.
but then the mozo brought my cortadito en jarrita and i became distracted by the sugar and the steamed milk and was able to talk a little more calmly. so we got caught up and could talk freely. and of course the mandatory discussion on oral sex (he tells me he's gotten quite used to the yanqui way of doing things and that they do it much better up here) - don't forget he's the one who informed me a year too late that in argentina the girls put out before they give head.
then the mozo came by again to take away the cups and stuff, and he asked if i'd like for him to clean my sandal? and of course i said yes with a broken voice.
when he brought it back, he presented it to me in both hands, sparkling white and cleaner than it was before i hurt my toe, and said, aca tiene princesita, su zapato. then i asked for a panqueque but with cream and chocolate sauce. he said there might not be chocolate sauce because of the summer heat, but "he'd see what he could do." so after a few minutes he comes back and tells me that instead of cream, it would be ice cream, and instead of chocolate sauce, it would be melted chocolate (like the kind they use in submarinos.) a few more minutes and he brings out a huge plate and i said to chino, "i bet you don't think i can eat all this!"
of course i did and it turned a whole episode (my toe bleeding!!!! what if i need medical attention!!!! i don't know what to do!!!) into just one of those things. mmmm. crepes and chocolate and ice cream, is there anything better for a skinny girl on a hot summer day?
