mix my arse

be it recorded:

the phrase "wintry mix" is hereby on miss e's blacklist and will no longer be used in this blog.

although miss e is quite certain she has not yet used "wintry mix" except in the context of blacklisting the phrase.

the phrase shall be blacklisted for the following reasons:

  • it is too general a way to describe the coming weather;

  • it is used way too often by meteorological professionals, as before the last cold spell residents of SmallCity USA were warned of a coming "wintry mix";

  • the obvious fact that the adjective "wintry," in the case it actually IS an adjective, has heretofore been known to appear only with the word "mix" appended and therefore has no other use in the English language as an adjective.

the exception shall hereby be noted that "wintry mix" may only be used in the context of criticism or of explaining its blacklisting; it shall NEVER be used as a real word.

that is all.

the phrase blacklist

voy a intentar no ser tan "militant."

leí en el New York Times que el arbusto dejó de decir "stay the course" porque da una
impresión equivocada. Otras frases que el arbusto toda la prensa debe dejar de usar:

  • cut and run
  • resolute
  • determined

  • held to account, hold to account, o cualquier permutación de las palabras "hold" y "account"

ok ya me aburrí de eso. será una lista a la cual agregaré frases que se deben dejar de usar mientras voy acordándome de los mismos.

in other news...

the no-fly list

did you know that one of my favorite radio personalities, Randi Rhodes, was no-fly listed?

i wonder what it would take for ME to get on that list. not that i want to because it would be a pain in the ass to get off it, but what could i do or say that might get me on that list?

i have already imagined the scene in my head: i will get to the airport two hours early. i will try to check in and they will ask me to come with them. i will be detained in a secret room. i will ask why am i here? they will say "you have been deemed to be a threat to the government." i will reply, WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? but then after thinking about it i'll say, well i'm not a threat to the government unless you count speaking out against the crimes that are being committed in its name and the extent to which the current administration is a threat to democracy itself. so i guess in a way you could call me a threat.

and that will seal my fate.

anyway nightmares aside, there needs to be a commission or group or committee or something to issue lists of banned words and phrases. or at least to stamp a frowney face on the following:
"cut and run"
"stay the course"
"hate our freedom(s)"
"high crimes and misdemeanors"

if you have any suggestions of your own, please do not hesitate to tell me by way of a comment!

ok i'm going to read the sunday edition of the local paper while i wait for the computer store to open - i need a laptop cooling device because

I FINALLY GOT A DESK!!!

nancy pelosi, you're my hero!

"stay the course is not a STRATEGY, it's a SLOGAN!"

what i have noticed while watching CSPAN (the few times that i have):
dems seem to be more passionate about what they're saying, while republicans seem to be parrots who constantly repeat dubya's catch-phrases. they have this amazing talent for talking continually while saying as very little as possible. there is usually no meaning to their words! i had more mental questions while listening to the republicans than to the dems.

am i just sticking my head up my ass and not listening to republicans because dubya is a republican and i dislike him extremely?

because while the republican was talking, i had so many questions: what does "success" mean? you've told us what the RESULTS of success in iraq might be, but you haven't told us what, in fact, success actually means!

it is completely frustrating listening to them!

nancy and durbs i have watched on CSPAN. they seem to really know what they are talking about. it's like being in a job interview for a job you are truly passionate about, you don't need notes or to look at your resume to talk about it! you just know!

and i heard senator dick durbin on the ed schultz show yesterday, and he made a good argument for supporting more money for iraq: if i'm going to send a kid over there, i want to make sure he will have the resources to come back safely. because he had mentioned that he voted for more money for the iraq cause, i flinched a little WHAT?! but then what he said made sense. you can "support the troops" (pardon my use of a catchphrase/slogan) while still being against the war.
