profanities II

i just remembered a few more profane things:

    politics

  • i hate that the two parties are almost polar opposites.

  • i hate that political discourse is at such a low level as it is now.

  • i hate that one party is always trying to say they are "right" and "good" and that the other one is "wrong" and "bad."
  • i hate that social issues take precedence over real issues; that politicians engage emotional responses from things like stem cell research or abortion rather than thoughtful debate on things that really matter (take that goddamn abortion debate for example - that elicits either anger or anxiety or whatever and if one is convinced one way or the other, he acts on that emotional impulse when he votes, if he shuts his ear off to everything else)

  • i hate that questionable laws (ahem, s.3930) get rushed through congress only weeks before mid-term elections. i hate the finger pointing, the distortion of voting records (ie, richard tYrant accusing of bernie sanders of being a friend of child molesters)... i hate the general apathy as well.

  • spin. party loyalty. the "are you a patriot or a loyalist" debate. profane is when a loyalist calls himself a patriot.

  • i hate the current system as it is and it makes me sad that it seems one has to compromise his integrity in order to make a difference.
now that is off my chest. here are some others:

    airport security
  • it's profane that i can't buy a bottle of water in an airport (AFTER passing through security) and carry it on the plane - dehydration is a big issue with me (i have super-low blood pressure) and i don't like having to depend on the flight attendants to bring me water; i've encountered more annoyed attendants than obliging ones.

  • i mean, can someone please explain to me why, if i have already gone through security and am awaiting my boarding call, i cannot bring a bottle of water on the plane? why why why? do they not screen their workers enough?

  • it's also profane that most of the cargo carried on passenger jets that comes from "trusted" senders is not inspected while the rest of us have to undergo indignities such as having to TAKE OFF OUR FUCKING SHOES. i do not take my shoes off automatically. i try very hard to choose shoes/sandals/slippers that will arouse the least amount of suspicion because i do not want to walk semi-barefoot on an airport floor. ick. let 'em waste their time searching me.
    also profane: TV shows
  • when US producers copy a british comedy and it's retarded.

  • case in point: coupling. remember? the british version is freaking hillarious. there was a US-produced version. oh, you don't remember? that's right because i don't think it made it very far past its pilot. it was re-goddamn-tarded.

  • exception to the profanity: The Office. british version is funny, although sometimes i don't understand what people are saying. US-version cracks me up moreso than the british version - maybe because i've never worked in a british office and i've never used those funky paper sizes (like A4, etc.) but i HAVE worked in quite a few offices here, so i can relate.

  • side note: i'm a little worried that "the office" will become more than a cult favorite and thence become stupid. some of the things they're doing this season just seem a little... hm... out there. amost "jumping the shark" out there (although happy days is before my time, i still know what that term means - thanks to Vh1)... the dead bird funeral pyre? i'm not sure i can relate to that.
    it is also profane that
  • in the US we have such thing as "plus-size"

  • but there is no such thing as "minus-size." ah the perils of being model thin...

and it is profane that i have given this glorified list of complaints the name "profanities."

obfuscation

so which is the best permutation of obfuscation?

contenders:
ob-fu-fucking-scation
ob-fu-goddamn-scation

why i ask:
to the fucktard who is taking up tv time: you are good at OB-FU-GODDAMN-SCATING the issues (if you know what that word means) about which you pontificate. i'd like to remind you that WE ARE NOT STUPID!!! you're a fucking retard and your followers are even worse because they rely on talking points put out by your people, thereby eliminating their need to think! they're IGNORANT APES that only need to imitate what you say and do (or what your people say and do because you don't have very impressive leadership skills). and it appears that you yourself rely on those very same talking points (i can tell because you keep getting your lines wrong; nobody on your staff department of truth theatrical staff (writers, choreographers and the like) would EVER feed you a grammatcially incorrect sentence, would they?) and those points were put out by SOMEONE (which was obviously not you, again, evidenced by the constant marring of your lines)... so, with all due respect, you too are an ape!

ugh. now my feathers are all ruffled. i should turn off cspan.

on abortion, i suppose

so i copied the important chunks of this post to start a new topic, "intellectual laziness," on a discussion group.

a participant responded with this:

I can appreciate your short essay on intellectual laziness and it makes perfect sense, no one should make a choice without doing their homework.

I will, however, take up the issue with you where you compared the death penalty to abortion. There is absolutely no comparison there whatsoever and whoever stuck that one in your head needs theirs examined. The death penalty is for one who made a conscious decision to take another's life, usually in an extremely violent way, one who has been deemed a menace to others in society and has lost their right to exist. Thereby comparing the two is basically comparing the child's life to that of a serial killer, rapist, or murderer; how can you really do that? I am not debating the abortion issue, because at first it sounded like you disagree with abortion, but I am debating the fact that it was compared to the death penalty or at least insinuated that it was wrong to be pro-death penalty but yet be anti-abortion.

GOD! i hate that debate. it is USELESS! an excerpt of my response:
my point though was not to inject my own views to the matter, but rather to provide an example. and i'd rather not debate social issues here. (at the end of the day, does it affect our country as a whole whether one can choose abortion, or whether gay people can marry each other? does it affect your quality of life? hmm... i'll have to think about my own question here, but i'm leaning towards "no"; at least i would answer no to that last question) let's talk about something more global!

so, since i requested we NOT debate social issues in the forum, i leave it to my blog to give me the space to talk about them! har har har, and i can delete comments if i get any wacko responses.

before thinking too hard about it though, i've come to the conclusion that the pro-life yet pro-death penalty dichotomy really does not merit real debate; as it is a social issue one has to ask, at then end of the day, does it really matter?

for the sake of thoroughness, i will think it through NOW and record my thoughts:

  • abortion=death (if you're pro-life); death penalty=death

  • algebraeically, abortion=death penalty

  • aside: I INSINUATED NOTHING

  • does it affect me? imagine it were illegal. people would still try to have abortions, leading to more health issues related to "coat hanger" abortions, leading to more (uninsured?) people in the hospitals, leading to a higher toll on the taxpayer when it comes to healthcare

  • does it affect me on a personal level? not really. i'm quite certain i would not have an abortion, but it's reassuring to know the option is there. and since i've never been in a situation that would require me to go through with a pregnancy or and abortion, i can't say with 100% certainty what i would do

  • a death is a death is a death, no?

  • where is forgiveness? y'all who talk about JEEEE-sus are all about forgiveness; why should it matter what the sin is? sure, violent criminals should be kept off the streets, but should they not be allowed a chance to change their ways?

  • i (most likely) wouldn't get an abortion myself, but that doesn't mean it should be illegal; some people could easily have an abortion with no moral dilemma

  • and don't accuse me of "moral relativism"

  • i believe in a universal morality

  • ok so maybe it has affected me on a personal level: my sister (the one who just had a kid) made that decision once before. the second time she got pregnant, though, she had the child, and i'm happy about that

  • not sure how i would have felt about her carrying the first child though; this was just before her super-always-drunk phase

  • and honestly, thinking this through is quite tiresome because there aren't any right answers. killing someone is killing someone is killing someone, right? it makes no differenc whether they deserved it, because who are we to decide what "deserved" means?

argh. enough of that; it's giving me a headache.

oh, one thing i forgot to mention though. yesterday i drove past a church that had a banner on the outside that said, "pray for an end to abortion." that made me think. what are y'all planning on doing to help cover the burden of all those new mouths to feed? all those unwanted pregnancies that will leave many children abandoned on your very doorstep? yes, people should be responsible when it comes to sex (so why won't you approve handing out free condoms?) but condoms aren't 100% effective, and the pill is expensive and not everyone can (or wants to) take it.

29.9.06

welcome back to 1984/happy torture day!

ok so as a teacher... i prefer to teach in poorer schools because i feel like i can have the most influence there and i can teach children how to think for themselves. and we know that there are many more poor kids than there are rich kids. and i will be teaching them to think. and they will grow up to be independent thinkers. and some will grow up to be independent lawmakers. and they won't take any bs from anyone. (and we all know, children, how miss e feels about BS and hypocrisy) that will be a REVOLUTION! so, regardless of if i can be labeled a liberal or a conservative i will teach people to THINK FOR THEMSELVES. so if we get this whole movement of poor people who can think for themselves... sure there will be exceptions who will use their genious to make millions by exploiting other poor people but stay with me... then maybe they will not allow the rich little brats that have everything done for them either by daddy or by daddy's name to pull the crap THAT THESE ASSHOLES ARE PULLING NOW!
(oh but if i could teach rich kids to think on their own who knows what this country would be like).

that kind of reminds me of when we learned about argentina's dirty war. some educators were disappeared.

and if those fat cats continue to eat away our rights... y'all know i'm not going to take bs... and if our country continues in this direction spiraling into hell, i will be disappeared.

(here i would argue that no miss e, you're being melodramatic; we have a constitution that lays out our rights and the role of the three branches of government and protects those rights, so it'll never happen. but what happened yesterday??? only 34 senators... i will repeat, ONLY 34 SENATORS VOTED AGAINST this thing, and we have 100.)

ok ok i realise this is my gut reaction. i haven't yet been searching around the internet for some primary sources upon which to base my own opinion. and i am afraid i may not find anything in a pure form - like my satellite will not be able to pick up signals because the cosmic backgound radiation is drowning them out. what do i have available to me... it's way too hard to navigate the house/senate websites for original legislation (it's hard even when i know the number) and i don't have the mental capacity at this moment given that my brain is clouded by the feeling of falling down into HELL. anyway off i go on my search, will update soon...

i feel like crying (again, gut reaction) and i can be quite intuitive if that means anything.

fortunately ms. rhodes has posted a link to the vote record (which has a link to the bill itself).

the text of said bill.

anyone from vt?

so apparently in vermont there is a battle going on for a senate seat... independent bernie sanders versus republican richard tarrant. i will let you sort things out for yourself, but check out the following:

like any claim that someone "supports x,y, or z" because of how he/she voted, it must be taken with a grain of salt and in light of the context. even when i heard the allegations that tarrant makes about sanders, i thought, there must have been some detail of the bill with which he was not in agreement. saying your opponent supports child molesters is asinine, puerile, and just ass-holey. not to mention it distorts the facts and tries to scare people. but scaring people is contrary to democracy - it's lawmakers that oppose certain parts of bills (parts they feel are unconstitutional) even when it might look bad that keep this country from turning into a facist kleptocracy. i hope the people of vermont see what i see in those ridiculous campaign ads.

anyway, if you want to see actual numbers of bills (ie, HR1104) there is this site that answers a lot of questions regarding tarrants allegations (you get to choose which issue to read about via links on the left hand side). it takes a while to find the actual bill numbers but keep reading and you'll get there.

for those more adept at finding cited legislation there's sanders' house webpage and also the library of congress' search engine, Thomas, for those who are really advanced.
