when your time is up, IT'S UP!!!

before I begin a new rant, i found another link in this week's TIME that is absolutely HILLARIOUS! go to www.sorryeverybody.com, there the half of the USA that voted against Bush apologizes to the rest of the world for the illiterate other half! It's so funny!

Ok now here is the promised rant. As most of you may have heard, a 57-year old woman has recently given birth to twins. OK-maybe things prevented her from having kids in her twenties. BUT WHEN YOUR TIME IS UP, IT'S UP! MENOPAUSE should be a HUGE biological clue that your chances of proliferation are UP! if you absolutely insist on passing on your genes to the next generation, and are worried that you will not have done so by the time you are beyone your reproductive years, FREEZE YOUR EGGS AND GET A SURROGATE when the time comes! and make sure there will always be someone who will care for your young when you die! you can't argue with biology (or you shouldn't at least; in this case apparently you can). and besides, how are you going to care for TWO babies while at the same time worrying about osteoporosis, stroke, heart attack, etc, etc and all the other age-related diseases? ok that is my rant for the day. i hope it does not come back to bite me in the butt; i am not so bent on reproducing as to want to do it at any cost, though i do understand the resulting problems of globally declining birth rates. but let's take a hint from nature: when time's up, STOP TRYING!
