small victory/simple pleasures

today's small victory
after the kids left, the superintendent of the GIGANTIC school district in which i work came to give a short talk and to try to recruit volunteers to go canvassing. in other words, to get people to go door-to-door to tell them to vote for the upcoming referendum. though i will be unable to do it this weekend, i might like to do it next saturday because even though i never went to schools in this district, it could still affect me b/c they're our neighbors. just think how much higher the crime rate would go if they cut afterschool programs entirely! for real, if this referendum does not pass they are SERIOUS: THEY (the school board) WILL CUT ALL AFTER SCHOOL SPORTS AND ALL MUSIC PROGRAMS.

(by the way, anyone who knows and understands the value of high school sports is invited to come canvassing with me next saturday! i'll request that we get sent to the pit!!!)

so what followed his talk were some questions. i raised my hand to ask if "the pit" was included in the canvas? the pit came to my mind because he mentioned that one of the major demographic groups that does not vote is the young families. the pit instantly came to my mind because those houses sprung up like mushrooms. and let's be honest folks, who really wants to live in a dug-out quarry if you can afford to live elsewhere?

after these questions he explained how the canvassing would work - we would get a bag with a map and a list of the houses we'd have to hit. also a script and some information to hand out. any questions?

my hand timidly rose.

will we also get a list of the polling places so we can tell the people where to go to vote?

the super's eyes lit up. that is a good idea! you know, i knew there was something those bags were missing! got any more great ideas?

i told him i'd let him know. so for me that was a small victory. like, look miss principal you're letting a very good employee go. IN YOUR FACE! hahaha.

simple pleasures that i thought of today:
1. folding clean underwear and putting it in my drawer
2. scrubbing the kitching sink with a cleanser that has bleach in it
