confirmed...

ok so since yesterday (?) or whenever it was, iran inaugurated a heavy water plant.

from my studies in nuclear engineering, this sounded familiar. especially because we learned about CANDu reactors - which use heavy water as a moderator THEREBY ALLOWING NATURAL (ie, not enriched) URANIUM to be used.

and this, indeed, is the case (heavy water is used as a moderator in reactors that use natural - unenriched - uranium)

this leads me to two conclusions:
1.) they are planning on switching to heavy-water reactors for energy and therefore preparing to shut down uranium enrichment facilities or
2.) they are planning on using heavy-water reactors for up-to-no-good reasons and are not planning on shutting down their uranium enrighment facilities leading to the boogeyman conclusion that the enriched uranium isn't being used for peaceful purposes.

i can't be the only one who has made the connection between heavy water and natural uranium, can i?
