i can breathe easy (easier) because it turns out that i didn't screw up my class after all!
in fact, i had more than twice as many students meet or exceed standards than students who fell below standards.
what that means for the school's AYP i don't yet know, but i was very surprised to see that some students who i thought were relatively weak in some areas actually improved and scored well on the IMAGE/ISAT exams.
in plain english: most of my kids did acceptably well on state exams.
and according to the illinois state board of education's interpretation of the adequate yearly progress part of NCLB, my class made AYP!!!Students in the All group and each subgroup must have performance levels of at least 47.5% Meeting/Exceeding standards for reading and mathematics. For any group (including the All group) with less than 47.5% Meeting/Exceeding standards, a 95% confidence interval will be applied, which may enable the group to meet AYP. Subgroups also may meet this condition through Safe Harbor provisions.
