jinxes and other random things

when i got home this evening i kind of half-expected Andy (from sex dream no. 2) have shown up at my house. i've mentioned this before - that random things like that happen to me all the time. however, now that i've hinted at the possibiliby that this too could be one of those random things, i've jinxed myself and so it's not going to happen. but like the lawyer, when he was briefly back in my life - i had thought about him randomly; i remember thinking that i hadn't heard from him in a while, and soon afterwards i got an email from him.

our school "holiday party" was today after classes. you know how every office has a holiday party - one of those. the only difference between my work and your work, where you work in an actual office and might even have a desk and a computer, is that my work is practically all women. there was one man at the party. one. i don't think i have a lot of women friends - i think i get along with them fine, but i'm more shy among women. anyhow i just sat at a table with the other aides, none of which is my age. there is one who is 22 but she had to take a final exam. so, either because of the lack of men or because all of these women (and the man) are involved in the education of children, there were no bosses getting drunk and karaoke-ing or intoxicated office assistants dancing on tables, like i expected from what i've seen on sitcoms or heard about on morning radio talk shows. so tomorrow there will be no laughs about what happened the night before, no inside office jokes... it kind of makes me wish i had an office job!

anyhow, one more thing. a pet peeve. a couple of weeks ago i went to my aunt's house to watch a football game. what ABSOLUTELY DRIVES ME UP THE WALL is when people singularize a team name for the sake of what they think is correct grammar. like when people say, you gonna wear your cub hat? ugh, this happened again and again! you gonna hang your viking flag in the window? NO the team name is the cubS, the vikingS, the bearS. when you're talking about your Bears hat, there is no need to singularize it because your'e talking about a team, not an unspecified number of bears! it's already singular!
